    SEND refers to children and young people who have a learning difficulty and or a disability that requires additional or different support to help them access education and achieve their potential.

    SEND provision in England is underpinned by the Children and Families Act 2014, which sets out the legal framework for identifying and supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, and is supported by the SEND Code of Practice (2015), which provides statutory guidance for education, health and care services.

    Available training sessions

    Join our focused, practical online sessions covering three core statutory processes.

    1. What is an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment 

    Explore SEND principles, EHC assessments, legal rights, and funding for supporting learners through the graduated response.

    In this session, you will:

    • understand Special Educational Needs, graduated response, and statutory frameworks
    • learn EHC assessment processes, timelines, and effective plan structure
    • know legal rights relating to placements and provision

    You will leave confident in SEND statutory assessment processes and understand what a plan may contain.

    2. Requesting an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment

    Discover how to confidently request an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment in this focused BCP Council SEND training.

    You’ll develop a clear understanding of:

    • criteria for assessment requests
    • evidence requirements
    • best practice approaches

    This session will help ensure your requests are person centred, meaningful, and robust.

    3. Annual review of Education, Health and Care Plans

    Explore how to deliver high-quality and meaningful annual reviews of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in this engaging BCP SEND training.

    In this session, you will:

    • understand the importance of putting the children and young people at the centre of the process
    • understand your legal obligations and associated statutory timescales
    • learn how to structure effective reviews
    • understand what appropriate supporting information is required to ensure efficiency
    • strengthen your ability to review outcomes and impact for children and young people

    Leave equipped to lead reviews that place children and young people at the centre and drive positive outcomes.
